Geo skills create poison surfaces which can heal undead, or set up explosions with Pyro that get bonuses from Pyro skill points. Even a single stun in combat can mitigate thousands of damage. Aero ≒ Poly : Aero only has surface damage. That's why Divinity: Original Sin 2 's Polymorph skill school is unique as fantasy magic goes. Not many RPGs let you deform your character into a hideous amalgam of monsters so they can break the game. It could range from 0% bonus, in which case Poly pulls ahead 3%, to immense bonuses in damage if you can force enemies to walk through it (easily done with good tactics and/or teleport spells). There are a lot of great Polymorph skills in Divinity: Original Sin 2. The benefit of elemental surfaces depends on your tactics. Poly gives you NO BONUSES to elemental surfaces. Whenever someone steps through fire created by you, the damage it causes gets bonuses based on your Pyro. For example: When you combine Fireball + Fossil Strike, the explosion that happens because fire combined with oil gets bonuses from your Pyro. If you are using 2 or more magic trees in the build, Poly is optimal. You've completely forgotten about elemental surfaces, which gain bonuses from your skill points in Aero / Geo / Pyro.
